CUUC has been a part of the Tri-Cities since 1948, helping families explore world religions, human diversity, ethics and responsible living. We keep our minds open to the religious questions people have struggled with in all times and places. We believe that personal experience, conscience, and reason should be the final authorities in religion. In the end, religious authority lies not in a book, person, or institution, but in ourselves. CUUC’s services and programs support each person’s life-long growth and spiritual learning. Come as you are. Come as who you are. We are a Welcoming Congregation. December 24, 4:00 pm: “Christmas Eve: What Sustains Us”

with Rev. Monica Jacobson-Tennessen, Matt Smith, Wanda Clifton, and the CUUC Choir

For most of the 1800ish years people have gathered for Christmas Eve services, or something like them, they have gathered in times of profound uncertainty and risk. We know a bit about what it’s like to live in times of uncertainty and risk; this year, we’ll lean into the ways Christmas can sustain us in story, music, and sharing our light.

Sunday, January 12, 10:30 am “Is That All There Is?”

with Matt Smith and Wanda Clifton

Peggy Lee's 1960's hit song asked this question, a question that has long been asked and never really answered.  Don't worry!  I'm not going to answer it either!  But, using a recent tour of Egypt as a springboard, let's explore what a fear of death has motivated mankind to do.  Should we be doing what Lee's song suggests and "keep dancing, break out the booze and have a ball" rather than what we have chosen these past 5000 years?  What do you think?

The Old English word coddiwomple means “to travel purposefully toward an as-yet unknown direction,” much like this service, which is about spiritual exploration and the call of the open road.   Melanie Davis, PhD, Unitarian Universalist Lay Preacher, Manager of the UUA’s Our Whole Lives Program, and gifted singer is our guest this morning.

Sunday, January 26, 10:30 am “Covenants, not creeds or dogma"

with Mike Truex, Pauline Schafer and Virginia Tomlinson, the CUUC Committee on Ministry

Being a Unitarian Universalist doesn't require reciting creeds or believing in dogma or doctrine.  Ours is a covenantal religion. "Covenant is the silk that joins Unitarian Universalist (UU) congregations, communities, and individuals together in a web of interconnection. The practice of promising to walk together is the precious core of our creedless faith.”
